Northstar Ventures is pleased to announce the appointment of a new board member, Judith Hartley, former CEO of British Business Investments and Interim CEO of British Patient Capital, the two commercial subsidiaries within the British Business Bank group.

Alasdair Greig, Director of Northstar Ventures said: ‘Judith has extensive experience in SME finance and we believe this strategic appointment of Judith to the board will be key to help us grow both the types of finance we can offer to SMEs and the opportunities we can offer investors. Judith will strengthen Northstar’s board and we are pleased she has agreed to join us.’

Judith Hartley said: ‘Northstar is a key organisation in the North East’s early-stage venture capital eco-system and I’m delighted to be joining its board. This is an exciting time for Northstar with the recent appointment of Edward Twiddy as Chair and the launch of its first EIS fund. I look forward to working with Edward and the entire Northstar Ventures team, to help to catalyse the company’s strategy for funding the tech ecosystem in the region.’

Northstar Ventures is a leading source of early-stage equity capital for new tech firms and also targets deep local impact through its management of the North East Social Investment Fund. Northstar Ventures has launched its first EIS fund, the Northstar EIS Growth Fund, which is now open for subscriptions. The first close of the fund is targeted for 31st March 2024. The fund will invest in the North East’s highest potential technology scale-up companies, focusing on the clean tech and healthy ageing sectors, where the region has global competitive advantage.
